TWILIGHT of WAR review FROM NYDM NEBRASKA ZINE

Elctrikchair: Twilight of War
EP Review
By Philip Webb on 03/16/2008

Twilight of War is an awesome Metal EP with a lot of rapid fire, A-10 gattling gun double bass drumming, brilliant melodic guitar riffs and brutal shredding and deadly evil vocal attacks! Elctrikchair featuring Dominium on lead vocals, Siren on backup vocals, Andy (Prosecutor Dumah) Rodriguez on lead guitar, Hades on bass and Bobby (Executioner) Rodriguez on drums created a unique blend of Black and Death Metal with elements of Opera along with Goth and Thrash Metal for this EP, Twilight of War that only foretells great things for their next full length album sometime in the near future!

The experimental neo-classical keyboard solo by Bobby Rodriguez for the Intos(into the blackest shadows) was phenomenal with its dark, morose tone of impending doom that sets the mood for the rest of this five song EP!

Ov Baphomet is pure Black Metal at its blackest! The Executioner Bobby Rodriguez syncopated drum blast beats add explosive dread to this track. The guitar work on this track is phenomenal with lots of solos and lightning fast shredding! Ov Baphomet has the Old School Black Metal influences of Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir and Mayhem.

Roots of Massacre is an awesome, earth shattering piece of Blackened Melodic Death Metal! The dual vocal attack of Dominium with his Black Metal shrieks and Prosecutor Dumah’s Death Metal growl adding depth and uniqueness to this track. The guitar solo and its melodic riffs by Prosecuter Dumah near the end of Roots Massacre is a nice finish to a very brutal, but catchy track!

Deecrepit Christbutcher has a haunting, gothic vocal intro by Siren that is followed by a rapid fire Black Metal explosion that prevails throughout this track! There is a nice break in the middle of Deecrepit Christbutcher featuring a marching drum solo by Executioner and acoustic guitar solo by Prosecutor Dumah that allows the listener to take a break from the brutal ear beating the rest of this track dishes out.

Twilight of War is an epic masterpiece of Progressive Black Metal with elements of Gothic Opera and Old School Trash Metal! The high Opera note intro of Siren is enough to bring tears to any extreme Metal listener! This song tops at a little over ten minutes but seems to move very quickly and easily keeps the listeners attention throughout this epic with its several breaks and rapid, but flowing tempo changes! The ghostly operatic vocal solo by Dominium in the middle of the track adds complexity to this Metal epic. The last few minutes of this epic song is brutal and unmerciful to the ears and minds of the listener!

Duncun Hills Coffie(Dethklok) is a killer, skull trashing cover of Dethklok! Elctrikchair sticks the brutality of the original, but still manage to make it their own version!

ELCTRIKCHAIR - 'Eternity Into Darkness'

Ah, what a nostalgia trip! Death Metal; fast, technical and brutal! My first love, and arguably the music that got me into the harsher, more obscure side of music. As times gone on, i've left that genre well alone and gone on to very different things, but listening to this 4 track EP by Colorados Elctrikchair has certainly brought back some grim, ugly, traumatising but still very fucking awesome memories!

Elcktrikchair are everything a death metal band needs to be, and more! Technicallity, brutallity and a precise rhythmic quality that hits like a guillotine to the back of the neck.

Opening track 'Carpathian Forest' solidly crashes home the notion that these guys mean business. Classic old school death grind, it's a speddy and technical affair, with some impressive guitar and drum work.

It's quite refreshing to hear a death metal band trying quite a varied repetoire. The Variation between screamed, low tone and sang vocals (showcased brilliantly on third track 'Shadows Of Death') is both effective and awesome to hear when Elctrikchair set about full flight.
All in all this is death metal done in the traditional key, and fairs all the better for it. This is a prime example of how death metal should be done. Fuck all this shit mainstream 'fashion metal' (you know... all in black.. more make up than talent...), this is true american death metal, the way it should be played!

FINAL COMMENTS: Yep... this is PROPER death metal...
SOUNDS LIKE: Hate Eternal, Suffocation

This review will be a brief affair, as I’m dealing with less than 15 minutes of music here. Elctrikchair (not a typo) is an up-and-coming band out of Colorado that plays an intriguing amalgamation of various types of extreme metal. They label themselves as progressive death metal, which I suppose is as good a descriptor as any I’d come up with.

Upon the initial listen, I think of black metal, due to the thin, rattling guitar tone, opening screams, and machine-gun drumming. Unfortunately, the drumming is mixed way too low, especially considering that the drummer is very young (13 or 14), and it’d be nice to hear what he can do. The first track as a whole, “Carpathian Forest” fits nicely under the black metal moniker, as its namesake would suggest, even if it lacks that special evil aura. At 1:50, they toss in a flourishing riff that reminds me of the crazy riffs that Unearth created in the days of yore. The following song, “Corrupt Scene”, starts off black metal again, but then the guitarists turn it around with a proggy thrash section and guitar squeals at 1:05. The bass guitar grabs some attention with a punchy tone during the big riffs, and Andrew Rodriguez shows some of the shredding that he’s capable of as the song approaches its end. They open up further in “Shadows of Death”, with more than enough shredding to keep me occupied. In addition, they mix in a few different vocal styles here: an awkward clean voice teams up with a gruff growled throat for the choruses, while the standard blackened rasp handles the majority of the vocals. The last song isn’t really worth mentioning, as it’s more of the same styling and less than two minutes in length.

Elctrikchair’s quickie demo disc has managed to grab my interest, although I’m a well-known sucker for some fast guitarwork. Bring on the shred. As it stands, what I hear is more of a black-thrash romp than a work of progressive death, although nowhere near as blood-boiling as an Absu or D666 album, but they do write some compelling and catchy tunes. At least compelling enough to make me interested in hearing what they can do on a full-length. When it’s done, send it our way, fellas.

Eternity into Darkness

[CD]

By: Black Angel

From the mountains of Colorado comes one of the most vicious Death Metal bands ever. The band is known as Elctrikchair and their latest EP is entitled "Eternity Into Darkness". The band has been touring nationally for the past few months and even landed a slot on the prestigious Milwaukee Metal-Fest, which featured such acts as Death Angel, Cattle Decapitation and The Misfits. To add to this big break, the band is also being played on radio stations across the USA!

I am not sure where to really begin, Elctrikchair seems to do it all in a little under fifteen minutes! Opening track "Carpathian Forest", ignites with raging guitar riffs and then proceeds to rip my head off with screeching vocals that resemble Dani Filth in his early days. The rhythm section is ferocious and sets the tone of what is to come. "Corrupt Scene" shoots out of the gate with raw and heavy guitar riffs, then it quickly gives way to a maniacal Death Metal journey filled with throaty vocals and a hammer-headed back-beat. The lead-break in this tune is well played and written into the song structure perfectly. Next up we have "Shadows of Death" and at this point in time I wanna duck and run! I've had my ass kicked before but never quite like this. Thankfully, this song isn't as malicious as the first, as a matter of fact, the chorus offers the first clean vocals yet. More importantly than this, are the guitar riffs and lead-breaks, they're awesome! Rather than being faster than the speed of light, they are methodical and played along with the rhythm of the song beautifully. "Mortuary" is the last and final tune on the EP and let me tell you, these guys don't let up one bit. They seem to go for the throat on this track. I am surprised to find more Deep throated growls as opposed to the high screeches that have already raped me. Another highlight to the song is a Slayer like lead-break that is ushered in at 90 mph; Kerry King would be proud.

Over the last few years I've become accustomed to having my ass kicked by Death/Black Metal bands, but never before like this and with an EP no less! Elctrickchair is definitely on the right track, as hard as these guys bring it, ain't gonna be long before somebody signs them a fat record deal. Check this EP out and see how long you can hang!

Death metal, black metal, diverse metal. Whichever you want to call it, Elctrikchair are on their way. A very talented young metal band with their average age at only 16, these guys have got a long way to go. A path that we will all surely come across. Hailing from Colorado, I was fortunate enough to be able to catch them at the Milwaukee Metal Fest 18 where they put on a great performance. There were a couple problems with the guitars, but over all a kick ass set. These four songs on a copied disk they gave me at the show kill. They are going to be on the soon to be released E.P. out sometime end September or so. Andy Rodriguez-guitars/vocals, Bob Rodriguez-drums and Eloy Fernandez-bass pull out no stops on any of these extremely heavy tracks. They all pull from their many different influences which include Iron Maiden, Burzum, King Diamond, Slayer, Overkill and the list goes on. Elctrikchair dub themselves as diverse metal with shred guitar influence. For us simpletons they have a black/death metal sound with a twist. A good twist I might add. The four tracks I possess, production wise sound okay. Curios to hear the finished product. Track titles are ‘Carpathian Forest, Shadows of Death, Corrupt Scene, Mortuary’. Like I said, each of these track are very heavy. It’s hard to pick out a favorite. I’ll let you do that on your own. But do check these guys out. As I hope the music business treats them well so they’ll be around for a long time to come.www.elctrikchair.com

At the request of World Eater Records, Elctrikchair single "Shadows of Death" is being added to a  compilation with a host of highly regarded metal bands from across the U.S.

November 9, 2004 the following remarks were received from World Eater Records:

"The Elctrikchair track is one of the best tracks on it so far, in my opinion the music and sound quality is one of the top three."

The Dirt Metal Magazine

Wow, what a nite Friday at the House of Rock! Cymetre, Dark Reflections, and Elctrikchair put on an dazzling show full of energy and great metal. The show began with Dark Reflections and their unique style of hardcore thrash metal, this got the crowd going. From their rendition of Sepultura's Slave New World to their own In the Mean Time these guys thrashed about like maniacs. Jeremy the guitar player did his best Cliff Burton act as his head never stopped swirling in circles and his hair was flying. This band set the stage for a good show.

Up next playing to a packed house (75 to 100 people) Cymetre took stage. Cymetre's intense progressive sounds mixed in with an old school thrash and classical influence is a mezmirising experience to say the least. They opened the set with Allegro # 1, or to some: the Meshuggah song, with its off time beats and erie guitar leads this song is full of different sounds and flavors. With Anthony belting out " We march onto war" the band broke into The Death March, the crowd broke into a mosh pit. A feaverishly fast and heavy song, this song although shorter still has many changes and sick leads. The set included one of John Castro's signature guitar solos in the middle of Chaos & Corruption including a piece from Dark Energy, it was awesome! They played a new song which I think is probably the heaviest Cymetre song to date and ended with a full frontal assault on the drums by Anthony Lopez. They pulled out Impending Doom as well, a classic crowd pleaser with a great bass line. The show finished with Nocturn, a great song with an anthem feel, and shows bass player Brent Wagners prowess on the fretless bass. From the opening song to the end of the set these guys played some of the most complicated, fast paced, intense sounding music a person will ever hear; and they pulled it off with such ease and had fun doing it. Amazing set, great metal!!!!

Elctrikchair took the stage last and finished off the crowd with a mix of black metal vocals and Shadows Fall like music. These kids rocked, the drummer was 4 foot nothin and only 12 years old. In five more years he will be a rock god, he is great now. The set was fast paced and exciting, with good guitar leads and pounding drums the sound was heavy and dark. based out of Nebraska these guys will be playing at Milwaukee metal fest and back in Denver later this summer. Look out for them and check em out.

With three distinct bands and three different sounds this show was great. The crowd was great and the show electrifying! Check out all of these bands if you get a chance, you won't regret it.

Milwaukee Metal Fesst XVIII

Some of Fridays highlights were as follows, Milwaukee's own heavily death influenced Barwhore and Dark Shift. Heavy boot stomping Malice420. From Colorado, the young and upcoming "diverse metal" band Elctrikchair, Skeleton Witch, Watch Them Die, Cattle Decapitation, Mortal Decay, Deeds Of Flesh tore things up. And Goat Whore was amazing. Potential Threat, Stone Vengence, Deflagration, Gauntlet. The Black Dahlia Murder were what I suppose you could call the feature act before the headliner. I'm not sure what was the exact incident to set them off, but besides playing a few songs that they ripped out very well, the only thing they featured was how they felt about the festival. TBDM were very adamant about their feelings towards the festival and it's problems. How it sucked. How it was bullshit, wa, wa, wa. Well they did kick some ass up there for the amount of time they were allowed to play. Hope the rest of your tour goes as well as you hope. The Bay Area legends Death Angel hit the stage. Back after 14 years as if they were never away. Death Angel wailed through many classics. 'Evil Priest, Disturbing The Peace, Seemingly Endless Time'as a couple off the new 'Art Of Dying' release 'Thrown To The Wolves, Thicker Than Blood, and Famine'. Death Angel killed 'em. They as a band are tighter than ever. The one and only complaint at the festival, I must say I agree with, that was very, very wrong was when Death Angel were on the last song of their shortened set, 'Kill As One', the wonderful city of Milwaukee cut of the electricity. This after turning all the house lights up. Yes it may have been 2:00 am, but that was just unsacred. But then again just seeing the guys together again, even if it was just for one song, was well worth it.

Eternity In Darkness is the name of the EP I'm reviewing today. The asskicking guys from Elctrikchair sent it to me via snail mail, and I received it 2 days ago. These guys, although very young, are incredibly talented, able to shred out some insane fucking shit. If they continue on at this rate, they will take the metal world by storm. No fucking joke. Track one of this incredible EP is "Carpathian Forest." It starts with some atmospheric noise, then the guitar, drums, and bass explode in and lacerate your face with killer shredding. The music is not only brutal and intense, but it is incredibly technical music, there is only perfection in each composition. I know it may seem weird to compare a metal band to jazz, but these guys have that kind of musicality and perfection. Number two is called "Corrupt Scene." You can d/load this one and Shadows of Death, the next track, from http://myspace.com/elctrikchair. On this track there's a mix of deep, roaring vocals as well as high, piercing screeches in the vein of Macabre. My ONLY criticism AT ALL, and it's not that much of a big deal, is that the screeching can wear on my nerves a little bit. But with brutal music, that doesn't really matter. With such tight instrumentation, they could be singing "I Love You, You Love Me" along with Barney and still sound amazing. Next is of course "Shadows Of Death." Complete and utter aural massacre. There is no let up throughout the entire EP, they simply manage to bash you over the head again and again without ever sounding generic or the same. There's a pretty kick ass vocal part in here where there's some slightly more Acid Bath-like screams along with some cleaner sing/shouting that just sounds really damn cool. I cannot reiterate enough just how uber-talented these three guys are. If you like death, grind, black, or any other kind of extreme metal, you had best get ahold of this shit. The last track is called "Mortuary." Quick explosion of instruments, although the track is at times a bit slower paced. Now when I say that I don't mean in the occasionally boring My Dying Bride way, I mean, well hell, just listen to it. Next this really sick, awesome growl roars on through, and the guitar, bass, drums, vocals, everything, just continue to tear your head from your shoulders and play street hockey with it.

Vocals - The deep growls and roars are excellent, the momentary cleaner vocals sound just right, and the screams and screeches fit very well. As I said they can get on my nerves, but not so that I won't listen to this over and over again.

Guitar - Shred. Shred. Shred. Insane squeal. Shred. Shred. Shred. Holy shit, it's amazing. You have to listen to this to know just how fucking crazy it is.

Bass - Duh duh duh duh duh DUH DUH DUH BAM BAM dead. Fucking brilliant, if I had a subwoofer I think my head would cave in. Nothing wrong here at all, everything right.

Drums - This kid looks like he's 12!! But he's such a tight, amazing drummer. Bashing, rolling, crashing, smashing, and other things you can do with a two by four, but on a drum kit. I give this guy props for being so kick ass.

Overall - Incredibly complex, brutal, amazing album. You will definitely hear more from these folks in the future. They are going to take over the world.

Halfman gives it a 9/10

This Elctrickchair four song demo captures a unique quality from this band. It's raw and young, yet they sound very professional and experienced all at once.

I have to hand it to Bob Rodriguez on the drums. He's young, only 13 or so, but knows how to jam.

His big brother Andy does a great job guitar and vocals.

The song arrangements are well put together.

And Eloy Fernandez makes the bass guitar very present.

"Carpathian Forest" and "Corrupt Scene" sound to me like a more black metal feel. But when you get to "Shadows of Death" and "Mortuary" the death metal presence is felt. Maybe those are some earlier written songs.

These guys have a very professional attitude and apparently some professional management backing them up. They've already played Milwaukee Metalfest last year and I heard lots of good things about them at that time. I'm sure they have more to offer here in the coming future.
